Homeopathy was once the alternative to more barbaric medical practices and at one point was the medicinal choice of most people. However, as scientific and clinical research techniques advance, more and more evidence shows that Homeopathy might not be all it is reputed to be. In fact, it just might be proven to be a complete and total hoax with no greater benefit than a placebo.
What Is Involved In Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is an alternative medicinal practice that involves the creation of infusions by diluting herbal compounds and medicines into a solution. The basics of Homeopathy involve mixing a compound and then diluting the compound over and over again in order to create the infusion. The infusion is then ready for the patient.
The dilution varies though it can some times be diluted as many as twelve times. This means that by the time the infusion is ready for the patients the solution is often times no different from the diluting solution. In other words, even though it started out as a heavy herbal compound and water by the time the diluting is done it is basically just water.
The principal behind this particular practice is that the individuals receive the essence of the compound, which is released into the solution each time it is diluted. This essence or healing power is what makes the solution viable. Unfortunately, there is no scientific evidence to support that this is the case. There are people who benefit from this medical practice. There are two conclusions, which can be drawn from people who benefit from this type of alternative medicine.
The first is that they truly believe in it and therefore receive benefit through psychosomatic tendencies. In other words, they believe it works so strongly that it actually does by triggering biological responses in the body. The other is that they possibly could be highly sensitive to the herbal compound and are able to receive some benefit from the small amounts, which might be found in the infusion.
There are other possibilities the most likely of which is that the compound was not diluted enough to remove the actual compound and so the ratio of solution to compound is high enough to initiate a biological response. Up until the 1920?s however, this was a highly accepted medical practice and there were a number of schools that taught it exclusively. It gained popularity during the times of purging and blood letting as an alternative to these often harsh and ineffective means of curing illness.
What is homeopathy? If you are looking into alternative medical practices, you may be asking yourself this question and you would not be alone there are many people who wonder, what is homeopathy when they hear about alternative medical practices. However, look no further to find the answer to what is homeopathy. Homeopathy is the practice of creating infusions from various compounds in order to relieve medical symptoms.
While this definition is accurate, it may still leave you with the un-answered question of what is homeopathy exactly.
What Is Homeopathy Exactly?
The process by which herbal or medicinal infusions are created in order to resolve specific medical symptoms is the science or pseudoscience of homeopathy. A practitioner of homeopathic medicine is an individual who is trained in the creation of such infusions. They will know what medicines and herbal compounds need to be combined in order to create the infusion and they will know the process by which an infusion is created.
An infusion is created by taking a particular compound that has been blended for both the individual and the symptoms that are present. This compound is then placed within a solution, and it is shaken. This shaken solution is then diluted and the process is repeated as many as 12 times before, the infusion is ready. Usually infusions are diluted no less than six times and no more than 12.
The reason for each dilution process is the fact that there is the belief that the herbal compounds during each one of the dilution and shaking processes releases any particular essence into a solution. It is this essence that is said to promote healing and relieve the symptoms. It is primarily because of this philosophy and the scientific evidence that shows that homeopathic infusions are primarily inert containing none of the original herbal compound or so little compound as to be unnoticeable.
That has placed homeopathic medicine and into the realm of pseudoscience and alternative medical practices, removing it from its once strong position as an alternative to more barbaric medical practices such as purging and bloodletting. This medical practice was primarily more popular and bloodletting or purging because it tended to have better results. The reason for this is speculated not that the herbal compounds were effective, but it is that the body was not made weak through the harsh bloodletting and purging practices allowing the body to heal its self, faster and more efficiently because it was stronger.
